EZ-OX is a newly EPA-approved oxalic acid miticide approved in most states as a safe, legal way to treat colonies for varroa mites. EZ-OX is the first oxalic acid in the U.S. approved for vaporization at a dose of 2 grams per brood box, which is supported by ongoing university research that suggests this higher dose of oxalic acid is more effective for mite control, without harming the bees or brood.
EZ-OX can be used with honey supers in place.
Oxalic acid is most effective when applied to colonies with no capped brood for the mites to shelter in. Repeated applications can be made when colonies are raising brood, though this may be less effective than needed for complete mite control during the brood-rearing season.
In powder form, EZ-OX is oxalic acid that can be applied exactly like other registered oxalic acid miticides. It can be dissolved into sugar syrup for dribble treatments directly to a hive or for spraying directly onto packages of bees. It can also be used with a heat vaporizer device to vaporize the correct dose of oxalic acid into the hive. Follow all printed safety instructions when using an oxalic acid vaporizer.
